pitcherlady May 13, 2008 Welcome visitor ![]() « Previous Main Next » Many of you will remember that we raised a troupe of baby turtles in my back yard last summer. I let the last one go on October 25 and dismantled the turtle condo about a month ago. Don't think I haven't tiptoed around my back yard for the last couple of weeks, especially with all this rain. I went to the creek this morning looking for the big mama turtles that live down there and a few minutes later, squatted down in the flowerbed to pull some weeds and there was one of the babies looking right at me with a dead cricket in it's mouth. Another sixteen inches and I'd have been standing right on him. That means no more shoes in the garden for a while. I'd rather have chiggers than to step on one of those babies. I'll just have to cross my fingers when the lawn mowing guy comes over. He's a welcome visitor too but not in the same way. In the top left of this photo is (the nose of) a dead mole, just to give you an idea of how small little they've grown. The dead mole was Gigi's contribution. permalink Comment Gallery: The Backyard Name: Beverly

John and I watched a turtle in our back yard day before yesterday. He was hanging out among the bird feeders... so cool.

I rescued one from certain death on the highway while on my way home last night. He/she wasn't as small or cute as yours. Watch your step. :)

Beautiful little critter. We have some not too delicate (although endangered in some places) gopher tortoises that live in our woods. I was lucky enough to get a picture last week.
